Pick your poison

Four ways in — same standard on every one of them. Colours borrowed from the sign above the door.

Same card. Five very different prices.

New to graded cards? This is the whole game in one card. Take the most famous Pokémon card in the world — a 1999 Base Set Charizard holo — and watch what the number on the slab does to the price.

It's why we photograph every raw card's corners, edges and surface before you buy — and why a slab from us is checked against its cert number, every time. The grade is the price. So we treat it that way.

≈ £280

Ungraded, near mint to the naked eye

The honest bit: "near mint" means nothing until a grader agrees. Half the raw Charizards we're offered have print lines or whitening their owners never spotted. We list ours with corner-by-corner photos so you know exactly what you're grading.

≈ £850

PSA 7 — Near Mint

The collector's entry point. A 7 looks superb in hand — the flaws are grader-level, not display-level. Triple the raw price, but it's authenticated, encased and liquid.

≈ £1,450

PSA 8 — Near Mint–Mint

The sweet spot, if you ask us. Strong eye appeal, a fraction of the 9's price, and the grade most likely to hold its relative value. This is the copy in our cabinet right now.

≈ £4,200

PSA 9 — Mint

Here's where population matters. Thousands of 9s exist, but demand is deeper still. The jump from 8 to 9 is the steepest £-per-point climb most collectors will actually buy.

£20,000+

PSA 10 — Gem Mint

The unicorn. A tiny fraction of all copies ever graded. At this level you're not buying a card, you're buying its census position — and we'd insist on a call before you spend this kind of money. Yes, really.

Prices are indicative, based on recent sold comps at the time this demo was built — the live site keeps them current. Grading fees, turnaround and risk are real: we'll always tell you when a card isn't worth grading.
